18:38:22 It would be nice to design the building with
passive solar in mind. Lighting could be done with LED lights so less PV panels
have to be used. Also on the south side of the building design a solar cooking
box sticking out to cook food by the sun, and teach solar water pasteurization
and solar cooking. This saves energy and can serve as a great teaching tool for
sustainable, simple, low-cost technologies.. Good luck with your worthwhile
programs! Allart Ligtenberg - Friendly Appropriate Solar Technologies (non-profit

I am impressed that in this world of cement freeways and shopping malls there is
still in the Bay Area, a natural refuge being protected by the Native Ohlone
people for all these years and that they are willing to share their ancient
respect for the environment and for the people with all of us. The village house
will be a wonderful addition to an already very living classroom where young
people and elders from all the diverse nations that this area is home to can
come together, participate in ceremonies that help us deepen our understanding
to our true spiritual nature, and connect more to each other as members of the
human family. The use of the solar and wind technologies is a much needed
example that is sorely needed in this challenging times. The shape of the turtle
is also very powerful. Slowly but surely this village house will be built and
the natural forces of the wind and the sun will empower it. With great respect,
Bonnie

To: Lost Soul, Thank you for your comment; it certainly requires a great deal of
knowledge and preparation before attending a sweat lodge. Please provide further
details of what happened so we may find out what happened. We share your sorrow
and grief, and it is important to learn exactly what happened. It would be
useful if you can send an email message to the webmaster or to the tribal
chairperson. Your comment has been removed while further details are found.

My great Grandmother is buried in front of the mission. Of course, there is no recorded history of this. As with most of the native people of CA, we have been ignored and our ancestors thought it best to face society with no mention of being Indian as to avoid persecution. Remember, CA actually had a "hunting season" for whites to hunt and kill Indians!! Thank you for your website. I look forward to visiting Indian Canyon and reuniting with my lost relatives!!

Hello. You may not remember me, but I was in a men's group lead by SUKUYB'TET (June LeGrand) 13 years ago. The Last time I was at Indian Canyon was at the celebration of her passing. She is always in my heart. Although her plans to live there physically were cut short, I am sure her spirit dwells there still. I am so happy to have found this website and to see the plans and vission you have for your community. I wish you every success in their completion, and plan to visit on my next trip to Ca. Since my last visit to your place, I have moved to the mountains of central Idaho, fallen in love with a spirit filled woman and married. If any of the folks from June's group are about, Please contact me @ houlihan@ctcweb.net thanks, Bill

There is an interesting site in the town where I live which is believed to have been built by Indians where one might go to commune. It is in a county park, Terell River County Park, along Moriches Bay, in Center Moriches, NY. This site is a horseshoe shaped set of berms that were built by prehistoric hands. The berms are in a marshy area about a quarter of a mile square, and they lead from the shore of the bay to a central area where the marsh adjoins woods. The central area is flat and sandy, and look much like a campsite.
There is nearby an artesian well where fresh water is coming out of the ground. At some point, somebody installed a pipe, which stands about two feet high, and the water from this well spills from the pipe.
The Indians called artesian well "wauwepex", and if there is not an artesian well nearby, there probably was never a Native American village nearby. Most liked by the Indians was a "Suk", or "Suck", which is a fresh water well in a salt water marsh. That's what you have at Terell River Park. A fresh water well in a salt marsh. Usually, "Suk" is part of a compound word, such as "poquaconsuk" or "cutsgunsuck" in Algonquin dialect. A wauwepex was like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to the local Indians, and one near the shore was the most coveted for reasons that seem quite obvious.
I know of several similar spots in Suffolk County, NY where those who seek ancestoral grounds for communing might go. If you ask me, I'll tell you where they are.
